Sadomasochism in the Foreign Ministry

A high-ranking diplomat, an “anonymous” BDSM blog, and traces leading straight to the center of power. How a top official became a national security risk. And what’s even worse: how the case was covered up.

Behind the Curtain

Vienna and Brussels are the settings of a story that reads like a thriller, yet it reveals the disturbing reality of Austrian diplomacy. At the center is a senior official whose double life not only raises questions about personal integrity but also poses serious security risks to the country. This is a story about power, silence, and the failure of institutional control mechanisms.

The Secret Double Life

For years, a top official at Austria’s Foreign Ministry operated an anonymous blog with sexually explicit, sadomasochistic content. The domains included “themaresexile.wordpress.com”, “nightsmare.wordpress.com”, and “https://the-night-mare.com”. The posts were artfully staged, partly sadomasochistic, and clearly reflected deliberate aesthetic and conceptual planning. The chosen vocabulary, however, revealed disturbing depths.

This official is no stranger to the highest circles of Austrian politics (name known to the editorial team).

“The Night Mare”

„The Night Mare“ is not just an erotic blog. It is a stylized abyss of dominance, psychological control, and literary-charged sadomasochism. The images show a woman in poses somewhere between art installation and provocative exhibitionism. The texts speak of “total submission,” “rape fantasies,” and “mental discipline.”

Here are selected excerpts from this senior official and family man:

  • “Are you in Berlin? Could use another woman for the party. Interested?”
  • “A stranger approached me on the street. African, a bit older, a bit shabby-looking. […] ‘You’re Caro, right?’ he asked in not particularly good German. […] You fucked her bloody. Why couldn’t you be more careful? She’s still young.”
  • “We were meat, nothing more. Women. Vessels for men’s semen.”
  • “Show me, does your udder give milk? You’re waiting for someone to knock you up again, you whore?”
  • “He shoved everything into my mouth.”
  • “A thick, hot stream. We sat there silently, heads and hair hanging down.”
  • “You pay double here. Like all you whores.”
  • “In the early evening, the hosts had a young girl from the neighborhood strip and then raped in front of our eyes as an hors d’oeuvre.”

One must ask: Is this language part of diplomatic training? Readers can form their own opinions.

Traces in Ministries

The blog’s digital fingerprints are deeply troubling. Technical metadata reveal uploads via iPhone, linked to an account using the email address “caro-n@hotmail.de”. Internal information and images confirm that some of the activities occurred at the official’s workplace.

Some of the image files obtained by the editorial team are tagged with the location “Leopold-Figl-Gasse, Vienna” — directly connected to the Foreign Ministry. A key image titled “img_8423.jpg” was uploaded on September 26, 2022, and contains geolocation data pinpointing the official’s place of work. Screenshots document WordPress backends, account dashboards, and upload times directly linking the content to the Foreign Ministry (BMEIA).

This raises the question: How did colleagues and staff even find out about this blog?

“Colleague” Photographs Phone

The images were apparently taken by a woman who gained access to the senior official’s phone. The “photographer” also worked in the Cabinet and took several images at different times, capturing account activity, login times, blog content, and pornographic images from the administrator’s perspective.

Not only were images illegally taken from the official’s phone, but they were also circulated internally. These recordings reportedly circulated within the ministry for weeks or months before reaching a whistleblower.

The irony: The woman who took the photos still works in a high-ranking public service position. The images and their distribution seemingly did not harm her career — quite the opposite. At this point, the question arises: Was the sadomasochistic official being blackmailed? How many staff and diplomats knew about this? These are the questions that now need answering.

The Suppressed Truth

The whistleblower forwarded the information and images to a media outlet with clear ties to a parliamentary party. The incident and evidence were also submitted to the federal whistleblower platform. But neither pursued the case. Otherwise, the official wouldn’t still hold such a senior position in the Foreign Ministry today.

Instead, the whistleblower was met with hesitation and warnings — or worse, the case was filed away.

The political editor of the media outlet told the whistleblower they couldn’t report on the topic. It was dismissed as “BDSM fantasies” and “a matter of taste.” The issue allegedly had “no political relevance.”

Another message to the whistleblower (seen by the editorial team) carried a thinly veiled warning that forwarding the images could be interpreted as “data abuse” or “blackmail.”

This was not support but a reflex of political self-protection. So much for feminist solidarity. But the whistleblower did one thing right: they came to Fass ohne Boden.

Promotion Instead of Consequences

While a disciplinary inquiry was allegedly launched against the official, it was dropped without consequence. There was no suspension, no media coverage, no political scrutiny. If anything, it was “message control at its finest.” The matter was swept under the rug — “daschlogn,” as they say in Austria.

Instead of thorough investigation, the official was promoted. Potential criminal implications or blackmail attempts were never pursued.

Security Risk Ignored

This case raises serious national security concerns. When a high-level official produces, stores, or communicates compromising material, it creates classic blackmail potential and a national security risk.

The fact that investigations were neither forensic nor security-focused is highly alarming from both a cybersecurity and intelligence standpoint. And here’s why.

Canva: Data Leak 2019

The email “caro-n@hotmail.de,” linked to the anonymous BDSM blog, appeared in a global data breach of the Canva platform in May 2019. Millions of datasets — including emails, names, and partially decrypted passwords — were leaked. The website HaveIBeenPwned lists the case publicly.

This is especially critical because the same credentials were used to access other online accounts, including a Jetpack account.

It raises the question of how deep the data breach went — and what risks arose as a result.

BMEIA: Cyberattack 2020

Just eight months later, in January 2020, the Austrian Foreign Ministry suffered one of the most severe cyberattacks in Second Republic history. The ministry publicly confirmed it was a highly professional and likely state-sponsored attack.

Internal emails, confidential documents, login credentials, and access structures could have been affected. The ministry has remained silent to this day. The senior official’s lax approach to IT security did not just show carelessness — it endangered national security.

Coincidentally, the official’s work email address appeared in yet another data leak.

System Failure and Cover-up

This affair is more than a scandal about a single individual. It is a textbook case of systemic failure. A top official with sensitive access ran a blog with perverse content — from his ministry office. Institutional safeguards failed. A party-affiliated media outlet looked away, preferring not to get involved. The whistleblower was intimidated:

“I don’t think we can cover this. BDSM fantasies are a matter of taste, but this isn’t a story to take someone down with.”

Fass ohne Boden, however, is telling exactly that story.

This case is a prime example of elite untouchability, institutional denial, and the dangerous interplay of intrigue, opacity, and disregard for security risks. It undermines both the credibility of the diplomatic corps and the legitimacy of political accountability. The amateurish cover-up has become a communications disaster for the Foreign Ministry.

It is a snapshot of the structural blindness that repeatedly plunges Austria into crisis. An elite — let’s call it the “cabal” — protects its own while whistleblowers are pushed into a corner. Journalists stay silent when their own camp is involved. And ministries cover for behavior that would cost any system administrator, clerk, or junior official their job.

It’s time to bring this story to light. And we are only at the beginning of this exposé series.
